The main problem I noticed is those “design thinkers” don’t communicate with people doing the UI. That leads to REALLY bad experiences. They simply don’t think as a “builder” and that communication gap negatively impacts the product.

So they shouldn’t learn Sketch to do the UI themselves, but rather to understand HOW the UI is done so they can communicate with the UI person better.
