Kids are not cool anymore
How conformism conquered rebellion and individuality
I remember my grandpa saying how we’re all a bunch of no good kids. How stuff we do wouldn’t slide when he was my age. Then, to a lesser extent my parents said the same thing.
Every new generation was pushing the line a little further. Breaking some rules, listening to more obscene music and so on.
I remember how my Mum frowned when she discovered I listen to Marilyn Manson. And her Mum frowned when she discovered my Mum likes Pink Floyd.
That rebellious attitude was ingrained into being a teenager and young adult. We were supposed to rebel.
Kids nowadays mostly listen to obvious industry plants. “Artists” that are designed and marketed exactly for that audience. Every little part of their music, image and public persona crafted for a specific effect.
There’s almost no soul in pop music anymore. Just marketing.
Most of them don’t even participate in what songs they’ll be “performing”.
