It’s true that other apps do it as well, but I think Instagram was the first one to modify the nav pattern this way. And since it’s so popular, maybe this is the reason Apple switched it up the same way in some of it’s native apps — people got used to this pattern.

I’m not saying it’s plain wrong, it’s just a bit confusing but at the same time so is the imperial system (vs metric) and yet A LOT of people learned to use it ;)
