It's not about the cost, it's about how it's handled. It's a dark pattern from a company preaching about being design oriented ;)
I made a video on the privacy policies of those apps a while ago:
the privacy policies may have changed since then, but at least when I checked it for the video it was quite horrible compared to other tools - including indie ones.
