Brutalism still exists more in terms of a joke. Low-tech and functional interfaces are gaining trends in certain types of devices (I’m currently using the Light Phone which has it’s entire interface in text-only — and going to try Mudita Pure when this comes out).

But these are at least for now edge cases.

There may come a time when ultra-minimal interfaces come back into trend (something even more minimal than flat+minimal combined) but I think that won’t become mainstream — most “regular” people like those little “delights” that come from illustration, some 3d, animation etc.

If it was up to me all visual designs would be black and white using the same 3 fonts all the time, but luckily it’s not up to me :D
